I was born in Pittsburgh USA in 1951, but was brought up in England from infancy. Today, I have been married for 25 years and hav two daughters, Sarah age 20 and Chloe age 20. Chloe gave birth to my grandson Luke in April 2006. I currently works for Sypol Limited, one of the leading Health and Safety Consultancies in the UK as the Software Development Manager, and I have done so for the past nine years. Prior to this I was the Technical Director of a PC manufacturing company, and has worked in the field of electronics for EMI, Philips, and telecommunications with Ansafone, plus various computer service companies since the first IBM PC was made its appearance. I am also a self-taught programmer and have had various programs published in magazines.

While working in the Health and Safety industry I have been involved with chemicals and the risks involved in their usage, distribution and handling. I work alongside professionals whose expertise in chemistry, physics and environmental sciences have made the company the recognised leader in the field of chemical risk assessment. It was within this background that I became the writer of the award winning software CMS, a product that deals with chemicals and their risks to health in connection with the UK legislation COSHH (Control of Substance Hazardous to Health Regulations).

In 2003 at the final meeting of the British Computer Society Awards Committee, the Technology Assessors unanimously selected CMS for one of the BCS Technology Awards in the Applications. Established in 1957, the British Computer Society is the leading body for those working in IT. With a world-wide membership now over 50,000 members in over 100 countries, BCS is the qualifying body for Chartered IT Professionals (CITP). The awards are as the Oscars are to the movie industry, but for IT. The author collected the Finalist award for the "Applications" category at the Hilton Hotel in London, where 600 invited guests from the UK industry was in attendance. See Details

Upon leaving school I wanted to pursue a career in archaeology or a profession that involved historical research, but unfortunately I lacked the necessary qualifications to enter these fields of expertise. One of my hobbies was electronics, inspired by my father who had seen my interest in this and who brought me an electronics home study kit when I was about twelve years of age. Since I could not enter the historical field that I sought, I pursued a career in electronics and later Information Technology instead. I advanced my career by obtaining significant qualifications in the field of activity, with a distinction in Industrial Electronics, and credits in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics. I found that I excelled in all areas of electronics in which he worked and as an apprentice at EMI Electronics I became top of my study group. Even so, my thirst for historical knowledge was never quenched and as a result, he has been an avid student of history throughout his life.

To my wife's disconcertion, I have a private library consisting of over 500 volumes, and includes all the ancient classics - from Herodotus to Livy. In the 1980's I wrote my first book The Deluge as History, but could not find a mainstream publisher to publish my work. I became disillusioned when a well-known author published a similar work two years later. It seemed to me that in order to get into print in those days one had to be a recognised author, but to become a recognised author one needed to get into print. A weird kind of logic and many a budding author has fallen foul at such a concept. Even so, undaunted I continued with my keen interest in history and with the advent of the Internet in recent years I have been able to merge both these two interests - IT and history.

So it was with the death of a close family friend who had had breast cancer, the I found that I was in a unique position to research the subject. With a background in history and chemical risk assessment compilation, with access to information and expertise that other historians would not normally have, I was able to successfully find out the causes of the disease, track its progress throughout history, and to identify ways of prevention. Breast Cancer "Cause - Prevention - Cure is the culmination of that research.
